What Happened Here?

Take a look at the photo and share your thoughts on what is going on here, and why it's going on.  If I've told you about this photo, don't cheat, let the other folks take a guess.  And no, I'm not inquiring about the water spraying from the 4.5" to 4".

  1. Is there a reason that the first arriving company's supply line is still wrapped around the plug?

  2. Thanks for stopping by Keith! Sorry, a conversation occurred on FB in reference to the photo, here is the explanation: 2 and 1 for the "odor of smoke in a house". As you are probably aware, RE433 responds as an Engine on box alarms in our first 2 dues and as a Rescue beyond that, unless another Rescue is closer. In this instance we responded as the second due Engine. The first Engine did as they should and completed a forward lay to the house, which was on a dead-end street. Shortly thereafter we arrived and secured the water supply at the intersection. While I was doing this, the box was balanced out for fire in the attic. The layout section of the first due Engine was approximately 10' long, nowhere near long enough to reach my LDH discharge. Since their last section of 4" was only 50', I chose to eliminate the last 50' by disconnecting it from their layout and run a 100' section from us to the coupling I had just disconnected. This allowed me to flake the excess hose into a yard versus clogging the only address-accessing intersection. The moral of the story is make your layout sections long enough for the supply pumpers to work with.
